The Veteran

Sergeant First Class Miguel Figueroa entered the United States Army Reserve on August 1985 as a Private First Class. He completed his basic initial training at Fort Leonard Wood, MO and his Advanced Individual Training at Fort Huachuca, AZ. He was assigned to the 24th Military Intelligence Battalion (BN) in Staten Island, NY. SFC Figueroa worked as an Imagery Analyst in the 24th MI BN. At the time, the 24th MI BN was the only unit in the U.S. Army that had imagery analyst as their primary mission.

In January 1991, SGT Figueroa was activated in support of Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm and assigned to the 513 Military Intelligence Brigade in Saudi Arabia. He spent about three months on active duty before returning to the 24th MI BN.

SFC Figueroa continued his military career by training in such places as Augsburg, Germany, Molesworth, England, Ft. Dix, NJ, Meridian, MS and March Air Force Base, CA. He eventually reached the rank of Sergeant First Class after attending numerous Non-Commissioned Officers courses.

In March 2003, SFC was activated in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and assigned to the 203rd Military Intelligence Battalion at Aberdeen Proving Grounds, MD. SFC Figueroa served as the Platoon Sergeant for 2nd Platoon, Charlie Company, 203rd MI BN. SFC was responsible for approximately thirty soldiers. SFC Figueroa and his unit were deployed to Iraq and stationed at Baghdad International Airport. The unit was responsible for conducting technical intelligence missions throughout Iraq. Technical intelligence missions were conducted in Baghdad, Balad, Mosul and other cities.

SFC Figueroa returned from Iraq in October 2003 after a successful and safe deployment. After twenty years of honorable service, SFC Miguel Figueroa retired form the U.S. Army Reserve. SFC Figueroa continues to be an unofficial representative for Fisher House. He assisted in organizing a Fisher House fundraiser in May 2008 at the Coral Springs Museum of Art, Coral Springs, FL. The military event raised about $12,400.00 for the soon to be built Fisher House in Miami, FL.

Definition of a Veteran:

A veteran - whether active duty, reserve, national guard or retired - is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a blank check made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life."
